A resource published ten years ago to enable faculty and students to access certain basic facts about theological colleges around the world. With production costs prohibiting a second (and revised) edition some of the contents are now available here. Contact us with corrections and email addresses.
For up-to-date information on theological education in particular continents or countries see the Associations of Theological Education. The contents are in process of being added to the WCC website with a view to keeping them up-to-date but the process is gradual.
Sharing of Information
Beginning with the information in the Directory it is possible to have a conversation between those engaged in theological education on three fronts:
1 Courses on offer, especially the newly developing Extension Courses.
2 The suitability and availability of textbooks for different subjects, and the basic needs of theological libraries, especially but not only in the developing world.
3 Theological Library Needs and Library Development (with a view to building up subject bibliographies of the kind of books which ought to be available in theological college libraries in the developing world). Systematic bibliographies of this kind existed in print in the 60s and early 70s but have not been developed since. The WWW seems the ideal place to start the conversation and make good the deficiency.
Some of the views and information may also be helpful to publishers of textbooks for theological education if only by making them aware of what is needed and therefore what must be kept in print.
As more and more insitutions in the developing world such a conversation could also prove invaluable to scholars, teachers and students who often feel isolated or whose communictions make life particularly dificult for them to keep in touch with others.
