I arrived as Director of Feed the Minds almost 10 years ago and one of the first calls was from Alec Gilmore.
It could have been intimidating to speak to someone who was so experienced, had led Feed the Minds more than 20 years before I did and had a formidable reputation among the Trustees and wider network around Feed the Minds.
But it was nothing of the sort — just realistic and useful encouragement, support and an intellectually stimulating conversation. This has continued over the years, with the occasional e-mail, phone call, meeting in our office or over tea when he was in London. Always with the same characteristics — encouragement, support and intellectual stimulation generating new ideas and positive energy.
The idea of telling the story of Feed the Minds often came up in our conversations. Now we have it — published online as a sign of how Feed the Minds has changed over time — typically Alec — always innovative and at the forefront of literacy and publishing.
